[ s t y l e ] Funky Disco

Funky Disco

My lovely friend Summer Deadlight is hosting a New Year’s Eve party at her home for Runway Kidz friends and family.  The dress code is SEXY DISCOWEAR!  Although I may miss part of the fun as I will be out and about celebrating in RL, I wanted to put together an outfit and hope to catch some of the fun when I return home.

I started the outfit with hair this time.  I remembered I picked up this cute afro from Mayamaya Creations a few month back.  I love the stars.  It’s no longer available but you can pick up a similar style without the stars.  Comfortable jersey mini dress from Ivalde and casual pochette bag from ETD are perfect for those hours and hours of dancing.  I added some funky bangles and star earrings.  The big sunglasses are a must item for any disco look.  I am not a big fan of platform boots so I decided to wear my new slouchy boots instead. For makeup, I chose hot pink lips matching my hot pink nails.

[ s t y l e ] New Year’s Eve Black & White Gala

New Year's Eve Black & White Gala

I have been invited to attend a Black & White New Year’s Eve Gala in RL.  My dear friend is a party promoter/host and she will be moving abroad next year.  This New Year’s Eve Gala would be the last of her famous parties, so with excitement and sadness, I opened my closet to plan the perfect outfit for the occasion.

New Year’s Eve parties can get out of control.  At times too much alcohol and crazy crowds can turn an evening of fun to a disaster.  Thus, I do not necessarily wear my best garments on New Year’s Eve.  Also, I love dancing so I often choose something comfortable as well as something flattering to my body shape.  In SL, we do not have such constraints to worry about, so we can let our imagination run and choose anything you want.

This year I have chosen a retro glam look for my New Year’s Eve festivities.  I wanted to stay away from black which is a common choice for any black and white event.  I wanted to wear white for a change.  I did not want to look like a bride yet wanted to exude femininity.  Midsummer Promise from Icing was just perfect.  I added the Glam Stole, also from Icing.  The stole is a perfect item to glam up any outfit.  This is one of my best purchases this year.  It can be tinted any color to match your outfit.  It includes two ways of wearing it, over the shoulder or wrapped around.  The best thing is that it comes with an AO so you don’t have to worry about your poses breaking up the stole in funny ways.  Neckline looked a bit bare so added a choker.  I could have chosen black pearls but wanted to keep the look fresh.  Drop black pearl earrings, matching ring and black gloves complete the look with hair and makeup reminiscent of old Hollywood.

[ s t y l e ] Rocco Femme

Rocco Femme

Today’s look started off with my new jacket from Leezu Baxter Designs, Rocco Femme.  Like any other designs by Leezu, the texture is superb and the shape interesting.  I love the volume of this jacket.  To accentuate the jacket’s puffy sleeves and the empire waist skirt shape, I chose a slim mini-skirt in similar color pailette.  I think the jacket looks great with leggings too.   Accessories were kept very simple since the jacket is the main focus point of my look today.  For hair, I had to go with something sleek like this dollarbie or freebie hair I picked up from GNUBIE store.  It’s actually men’s hair but I think I look fabulous.  Hmm, I didn’t intend to, but I kind of look like McKey, winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 11.

[ s t y l e ] Bejewelled

Jewel embellished pieces have been in style for sometime but the 2009 Spring/Summer collections we have seen in RL runways are bolder, brighter, and more colorful.  They are more exotic, each piece making a statement on its own.  From gowns to everyday dresses, from jackets to skirts, from bags to shoes, each item is embellished to the max with rich ethnic inspired stones and gems.

To create the look in SL, I immediately thought of Mimikri’s latest release Topkapi in gold and green together with Paper Couture’s Tumbled Stone Statement jewelry.  Both are bold and exotic pieces that scream attention.  To tone down and polish the look, I added a feminine cropped cardigan, simple red pumps and violet clutch.  The whole look reminds me of a modern interpretation of Cleopatra so chose to wear a blunt cut bob from House of Heart.
