[ s t y l e ] A Bit of Drama

A Bit of Drama

Today I played around with different outfits mixing them to create a new look.  Plaids are usually perceived somewhat matronly and far from glamorous.  I picked out this modern plaid system skirt from Muze and added extravagant pieces from Paper Couture to create today’s sexy and glamorous look.   DeLa‘s feather hat add another level of drama to the outfit. I kept accessories simple with simple black diamond drop earrings from Chloe.

I am still wearing DrLife SilkGirl Skin Qiao II.  I edited the make up for darker lips today.  The stylish hair is from Kin, short, flirty, and sexy… perfect for this outfit.

[ s t y l e ] Hwang Jin Yi

Hwang Jin Yi

A couple of days back, I got an inquiry about Korean traditional clothing designers in SL.  I only knew of two.  One of them closed down her shop a while back and the other has not created anything new since 2007.  Thus, I went searching for places in SL where you can buy hanbok (Korean traditional clothes).  I knew my friend Morphine from Sweetest Goodbye carried some which I have worn before, but I wanted to see if there were other designers out there.  I only found a few places, but I was pleasantly surprised to see some options over at LittleDoll by my friend Beaumont Ryba.   The outfit I am wearing today is her newest creation called Oriental Design Dress 12.  It is a great replica of hanbook, worn a la kisaeng style.  Kisaeng were Korean female entertainers who entertained upperclass men, politicians, and kings, similar to geishas in Japan.   They were trained in the fine arts, poetry, literature, music, and dance.  The most famous kisaeng in Korean history is Hwang Jin Yi during the 16th century.  There are lots of movies and TV series made about her.

Today I chose to wear QiaoII Skin from DrLife by Diana08 Xue.  Diana08 specializes in Asian skins.  She blends hand drawing and photosourcing to create her skins.  She used pictures of Song Hye Kyo for QiaoII Skin.  Song Hye Kyo is a famous Korean movie star, who actually played the role of Hwang Jin Yi in the movie released in 2007.  Diana08’s skins are soft.  The body details are not as prominent as the skins we see in the grid these days.  Personally, I prefer the soft shades over too realistic details.  Diana08 also offers an endless makeup version to all her skins.  The endless make up version allows you to use the sliders on the appearance box to change the color of the eyeshadows, eyeliner and lips.  DrLife is definitely a place to check out if you are looking for some great Asian skins.

[ s t y l e ] Vilan

Today I am wearing another amazing creation by Jare Capalini from AU V, a new addition to his upcoming Spring 2009 release to be revealed in May.  While most designers are finding inspiration in flowers, butterflies, and bright colors which are very typical of Spring, Jare’s Spring collection is like no other.  He uses neutral colors, mainly black, grey and whites to create some avant garde pieces.  Thank God we are not constrained by weather in SL.

To complete today’s look I added a wide belt from Style Starts Here and lace up boots from Royal Blue.  I added no other accessories as I felt the clothes made a statement on its own with the exception of my clutch, beautifully embellished with jewels, from Bianca Foulon.

My hair and make up I kept it very high fashion.  The hair is from VintageWear, best place for high fashion hair styles you would see in fashion shows.  The skin I am wearing today is from Kira Ahn.  I fell in love with her Asian skin line, Kim.  I ended up buying all three fatpacks.  After all, I am Asian but own very little Asian skins in my inventory.  I added dramatic lashes from Glow Studio.  These are gifts available at the store.  Glow Studio carries some of the most interesting lashes in the grid, perfect for those beauty shots one would see in a high fashion magazine spread.

[ s t y l e ] Style It! – SL Style Challenge #1

Style It! SL Fashion Challenge #1

I recently joined a new flickr group “Style It! – SL Style Challenge” by two SL style icons, Valena Glushenko and Thalia Jie.  Anyone who loves SL fashion and loves creating looks should join.  Each month, the group will have a styling challenge around one fashion item, where group members will be invited to create their own unique look using the specific fashion item of the month.  This month’s item is the diamond eye patch from Baiastice and this is my entry.

When I saw the eye-patch, I knew I wanted to go a bit avant-garde, so I chose a white jacket of Saeya Nyanda’s earlier creations, Kyoot Army’s Straight Jacket Surrealist outfit.  Worn under the jacket is a flirty strapless dress which I created by pulling together pieces from different outfits, the tube top from Artilleri’s Eva Dress and the skirt (prim and glitch pants layer) from Ibizarre’s Bolero Dress.  I added some funky chain bangles from DeLa’s giving it a bit of a rocker feel with sleek boots from Sweetest Goodbye.  The fishnet stockings add a bit of sex appeal to the whole look.  Of course, I did not forget myclutch today, Rock Clutch in Red from +plus, for a pop of color to the whole look.

I stuck with the rocker feel for hair and make-up.  You have seen me in this hair before, but I absolutely love it.  The make up is from LeLutka.  This particular one is no longer available, but any make-up with dramatic eyes would be perfect.

[ s t y l e ] A Little Bit of Sunshine

A Little Bit of Sunshine

I am back.  I had to deal with some tragic event in RL.  I am still learning to cope with it, but I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you who have supported me.  You have made it easier for me, and I am slowly moving forward.

On to today’s outfit, as I have been a bit depressed lately, I wanted to wear something bright and colorful to cheer me up.  I pulled out the Umbrella Dress from Tree & Ocean SL (TOSL).   This dress is not new.  It is actually one of Quinlan’s early creations.  I remember this was one of the outfits I chose for Miss SL Tropics 2007 competition during my early days of SL® and till this day it still remains as one of my favorite dresses in my inventory.  I love the shiny texture and the way the skirt moves.  I feel like I am beaming doses of sunlight and positive energy in this dress.

I went colorful with my choices in accessories and shoes, perhaps a little too much, but wanted to keep the look fun and happy.  The candy red shoes from HOC (only L$30 and scripted to change colors) are a true bargain.  I added cherry earrings (freebie) from PRIMALOT and Fruitylicious Charm Bangle from TOSL for some zesty touch.  The mini bag is also from TOSL.  It’s so cute.

Make up and hair, I could have gone cute with pig tails and no make up, but I stuck with my usual short brown hair and red lips.  Note, this skin is on sale over at Laroqki.  All Portrait skins are currently 50% off, i.e. L$645 per make-up or L$990 for fatpack of all makeups (ranging between 4 make ups to as much as 21 make ups depending on skin).  You can find the sale items on the second floor of the mainstore.

[ s t y l e ] Little Black Dress

Little Black Dress

The little black dress (LBD) is an essential piece in anyone’s wardrobe.  It is like a canvas.  It enhances whatever jewelry or other accessories you are wearing, your make-up, and your hair,  without distracting away from them.  Accessorize it with different items and you can give a little black dress a whole new persona.  Get one in a classic shape for a timeless sophiscated look.

Here I took my favorite little black dress, Eva Dress from Artilleri.  I have worn this dress before to create my low ARC outfit in a previous post.  Today I accessorized it with bold jewelry to create an elegant but trendy look embracing some of the 2009 Spring/Summer trends.  The earrings and necklace are the focus of the outfit.  This statement jewelry Pride Gold is from Modern Gypsy, just released over the weekend.  They are so chic, quite a modern interpretation of African influences.  I think bold jewelry like these look best with simple silhouttes.  I added a simple belt with gold buckles from LeLutka Mode.  It’s part of another great LBD.  For shoes and bag, I toned down the color to a more neutral shade of gold.  The pumps are from SKG and the clutch is from Baiastice.

On to hair and make-up, I have gone blonde lately.  As you know by now, I usually wear black brown hair, but lately I have been inclined to wear more platinum blonde shades for a change.  This particular hair style is from LeLutka Beaute, a previous group gift.  I wanted to keep the hair clean and simple and this was perfect.  The make-up is from Rockberry‘s Mia line.  I love the freckles on this one.

[ s t y l e ] Wednesday Ladies’ Night

Wednesday Ladies' Night

It is only mid week and I feel the need to blow out some steam.  Lately I find little motivation to work hard.  Believe it or not, I used to love going to work, but more and more I find myself slacking off.  Anyways, Wednesdays are usually Ladies’ Night at most clubs.  I wish I could slip into a cute little outfit and go dancing.

Today’s look started off with a cute mini sculpted dress from LeeZu!  Oxford Sculpted Dress is a new release available in lots of colors.  I chose the blue dress to wear with a silver metallic bolero from Ibizarre, another recent addition to my inventory.  I managed to catch a glimpse of the recent L$10 sale at Ibizarre and picked up a few goodies.  I added fishnet stockings from Punch Drunk to add a bit of rocker feel to the outfit.  The boots are also new, Get On! Boots from Sweetest Goodbye.  I love the sleek and slim shape of these boots.  For jewerly, I kept them in silver tones with earrings from LeLutka Mode and bangles from Fabulous.  DeLa‘s pink crocodile clutch add a bit of pop and funk to the whole look.  To complete the look I added big wild hair from Aden and couture make up from Gigi Couture.  By the way, the skin may no longer be available.  This was one of Giana’s earlier work.
